LoL and eSports Journalism
Lets talk about LoL e-sports journalism and the gg Chronicle.
We are only going to take a team capsule review from each of the two IEM Kiev brackets and anylyse them.
"Team SoloMid, it’s been an eventful season 2 for you all. The boys from the bay[life] moved to a gaming house in New York, with the intention of non-stop practicing and team building not unlike what Korean Starcraft teams do. It seemed like the results were immediate, with TSM taking second in Cologne in an exciting best of 3 against rival CL Gaming. "
IEM Cologne was August 18-21 and TSM still did not have a gaming house.
"A third-place finish in Raleigh kept the hope alive, but then followed three straight circuit events without a podium finish."
MLG Raleigh was in August 26-28 TSM was looking for a house. They also still had not fully moved in for IEM New York on October 13-16. Here's TheOddOne's take on the situation a full six days after IEM New York.
"Just when we were about to call the house a failure, TSM came back after a month’s break to absolutely tear their way to first place in Providence.
Yes by this point, November 18-20 2011, they finally had a gaming house.
The dream was alive! As of this writing, that actually makes TSM the hottest to be coming into Kiev – not that it means much, since the nearly 2-month break between events is bound to cool anyone off. TSM has been filling the time though, with significant scrimmaging and split participation (as US and Canada) in World Cyber Games 2011 Championship. The team is as strong as ever, and it’s hard not to install them as the prohibitive favorite for not just their group, but the entire tournament. Still, we’ve seen this team go hot and cold before, following up decisive wins with incomprehensible losses. As long as they stay focused and don’t shoot themselves in the foot, this is an easy group win for TSM."
Incomprehensible losses?!?! Maybe he means the "group of death" at IEM New York which was tough enough but then had top ranked CLG added as a substitute. Or maybe it's the lack of computers, food, heat, water and the like.
Hey anyone can make a mistake but this is what LoL eSports news coverage often consists of, news that can't even follow the chronology of events.
UPDATE: Looks like Team Sypher has mended fences with it's LoL team. Their
